East Midlands Tourism Consultation

Investment Consultation to set priorities for East Midlands visitor economy

East Midlands Tourism, funded by emda, responsible for the development of the region’s visitor economy, has launched a major consultation exercise to canvass opinion on where future investment in tourism should be directed, and identify the roles those working in the sector can have in supporting delivery of initiatives.

Professionals from across the East Midlands are being asked for their views on a series of recommendations that look at investment opportunities at both regional and destination level. The recommendations take into account proposals in the pipeline, those being developed as well as activity happening at potential flagship attractions.

This consultation is important because it will enable us to gather opinion on how we can accurately determine investment priorities, says Richard Dickinson, chief executive of East Midlands Tourism. It will give us the opportunity, with the aid of the industry, to put a strategy in place that identifies key investment areas and ultimately allow us to make the most of the region’s undoubted assets

I would encourage all those with an interest in further developing the region’s ever-growing visitor economy to visit the website and have their say on the suggestions being put forward.

The recommendations follow an independent review and cover everything from established tourism areas like the Peak District National Park to emerging destinations such as The National Forest and the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. They also look at how the potential of the region’s cities can be maximised.

Recommendations include:

All of the recommendations can be viewed on the Investment section of www.eastmidlandstourism.com and comments can be submitted via the website until the 14th of September.
