EXHIBITION:

SPOrTLIGHT: Paintings by The Singh Twins

7 September – 13 October 2007 Preview: Thursday 6 September 4pm - 9pm

An exhibition of twelve large-scale prints that look at the themes of Sport, Celebrity and Media by the world-renown artists, The Singh Twins. Responding to national celebrations of the 2001 Commonwealth Games, SPOrTLIGHT reinterprets Indian paintings to explore current perceptions and representations of sport.

Twin sisters Amrit and Rabindra Kaur Singh were born in London and now live on the Wirral. They combine the Indian miniature tradition with elements from Western aesthetics to create a unique genre within British art.


CHILDREN’S CLUBS:

After-school Art Academy for Talented & Gifted Students

For: 10 – 14 year old students talented and enthusiastic about art. Starting from Monday 17 September, and Mondays thereafter during term for 10 weeks, 3.45pm/4pm-5.30pm with Tessa Angell in the Art Room.

Cost: £70 for 10 weeks. Only 10 places available


Saturday Art Club

For: 5 – 11 year olds 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm. Cost: £34 for 4 sessions. Booking is essential prior to arrival to ensure a place.

Dates: Saturdays 22, 29 September, 6 & 13 October with Tessa Angell; Saturdays 10, 17, 24 November & 1 December with Jo Rawding “3D Craft”


Autumn Holiday Art School 2007

For: 5 – 12 year olds 10am – 3pm and Fridays only 10am-12pm, half days available to 5 - 8 yrs. Older children welcome. Monday 22 – 26 October: Big Alphabet Drawing Week with Alice Corps

Mon: am Nick-a-Name Collages & pm Animal Alphabet Modelling
Tues: am Funny Poem Mobiles & Animal Mask-making
Wed: am Animal Poem T-Shirts & pm Animal Puppets

Fri: am Wacky Bugs (no pm session)

Cost: £63 full, £17 day, £8.50 half-day, £41 5 half days. Discount available for each extra sibling on full week bookings.

MUSIC IN THE GALLERY SERIES

The Music programme at Catmose Gallery is dedicated to providing audiences with high calibre musicians from a range of genres. Enjoy a different gallery perspective by changing seats between pieces/works. Tickets: £7 / £5 concession

Pica Pica: Friday 21 September 7.30pm

Pica Pica are an all-female ‘a cappella’ vocal group. Their name, meaning ‘magpie’, evolved from their tendency to borrow songs from a wide variety of sources. Expect a world-wide repertoire ranging across folk, jazz, gospel and traditional songs.


Martin Cropper (violin) and Fraser Graham (piano): Friday 12 October 7.30pm

Violinist Martin Cropper is an incredibly passionate performer and educator. Over the summer he completed five performances of the Elgar violin concerto in the UK and Poland and is well-known locally for his inspiring work as Head of Strings at Oakham School. Fraser Graham is an extremely talented young pianist and accompanist, and recently gave a recital performance at the Richard Attenborough Centre in Leicester. Their programme will include works by Elgar, Prokofiev and Bacewicz.


Singer-Songwriter Exhibition featuring Jay Goldmark, Dan Britton, Irene Rae and Paul McClure: Friday 9 November 7.30pm

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear the contrasting styles of the area’s best singer-songwriters in a relaxed and intimate setting. Each of them has their own unique sound and will be performing a small selection of their self-penned acoustic songs.


Peter Oxley and Luis D’Agostino: Friday 12 December 7.30pm

Scintillating guitar duo D’Agostino and Oxley perform a varied and engaging selection of jazz. Their diverse repertoire ranges from traditional and modern tangos to the works of contemporary musicians such as Chick Corea, Egberto Gismonti and arrangements of pieces by Joni Mitchell, The Beatles and Norah Jones. They have steered their repertoire away from the usual jazz standards to present a rich programme which has a very broad appeal – both on disc and on the stage.
