Outcomes and papers from the Rural Art Space Symposium are online now.

The Symposium took place in January 2007 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire (UK) and was part of a two months myvillages.org project called Why We Left the Village and Came Back which spread across various exhibition spaces in Shrewsbury and other public and private venues in Shropshire during November 2006 to January 2007.

The symposium was a partnership venture between myvillages.org, Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery and the School of Art and Design, University of Wolverhampton.

The syposium set out to investigate various questions including:
Where does contemporary practice exist within rural settings? Where does it show and where is it discussed? Where and what is a rural art space?

The different displays and events during Why We Left The Village And Came Back visited existing and new spaces for contemporary art practice, to ask and explore issues of cultural production, participation and representation in regards to their spatial manifestations.
