Spotlight 5: Five Local Artists

13 July – 1 September, preview: Thursday 12 July 4pm - 8pm

Returning for its fifth year to celebrate the breadth and talent of artists working in Rutland and surrounding area. This year’s exhibition spotlights the wonderful and diverse work of a printer, painter, sculptor and ceramicist.

All work for is sale using the Arts Council's Own Art Scheme. The Own Art loan scheme is designed to make it easy and affordable for everyone to buy original, high quality contemporary art and craft. You can borrow up to £2, 000, or as little as £100, to be paid back in equal instalments over a period of 10 months – interest free, 0% APR.

Summer Art School

At Catmose Arts there are acitivites for you and your children during the first two weeks of the summer holidays; exploring painting and sculpture in exciting ways that will stimulate and motivate their left brain! Your child can attend any of the excellent day classes or book up a full week.

For 5 – 12 year olds, 10am – 3pm and Fridays 10am-12pm, half days available for 5 - 8 yrs (older children are welcome)

Week one is Exploring Painting with Alice Corps; investigating colour, portaits, texture and shape throughout the week.

Week two is Sculpture and 3D with Simon Doughty. This will involve making a wide range of different kinds of structure including puppet making, kites, mobile and working with recycled materials.

Cost is £63 for a full week, £17 per day and £8.50 half-day (you can pay £41 for 5 half days). Discounts are available for extra siblings on full week bookings.

Adult workshops

Corset Making (1780s or 1880s) with Abigail Haughton
Saturday 30 June & 7 July 10am – 4pm

To make either a 1780s (top left) or 1880s (top right) corset over two days with fashion industry seamstress Abigail Haughton. The course aims to give an elementary understanding of pattern construction and the satisfaction of coming away with a wearable wonderful corset. A high level of accuracy and hand finish will be taught. This course will require a high level of commitment from anyone wanting to do it and some experience would help.

Creative Digital Photography with Rod Corston
Saturday 16 June 10am – 4pm

In one day transform your own digital photographs from plain images into striking graphics works using a MAC computer program called Photoshop. This workshop is designed to provide you with the basic instructions in how to use this versatile program.

Sculptural Painting with Debbie Boon
Saturday 7 July 10am – 4pm

Using organic materials, such as flowers, vegetables and fruit, as the subject, be led through the process of applying acrylic paint and mixed media to create a painting to take home.
