Greener Events Guide
Reduce, Replace, Neutralise...
The Government Office for the South West has produced Greener Events, their guide to reducing the environmental impacts of conference and seminars.
The guide gives a clear explanation of why is it important to consider how your event affects the environment. It goes on to give advice on the four key factors to remember when planning an event. These are:
- Venue Choice
- CO2 Emissions
- Locally Produced Food
- Reducing Waste (and costs)
The guide gives an example of a climate neutral event and describes how to approach reducing your carbon footprint using the Low-Carbon Hierarcy; Reduce, Replace and Neutralise. Finally, there is a useful Greener Events Checklist included that can be used during the planning of an event.
You can download The Greener Event Guide or find on the Business Page of www.oursouthwest.com
The guide is produced by Government Office for the South West, March 2007 (first published July 2005) and is recommended by Sustainability South West, Environment Agency (SW), South West of England Regional Development Agency, South West Regional Assembly, South West Local Government Association and at a national level by Envirowise and the Sustainable Development Commission.
