Resources from EMARAN May 2008 event

EMARAN spring conference resources

The EMARAN spring event this year focused on the challenges that face rural practitioners and artists.

We were very pleased to have Nancy Sinclair, a specialist rural practitioner from Aune Head Arts in Devon deliver our keynote speech. She also delivered a workshop called Working and Thriving in the Rural East Midlands. You can download the notes and suggestions made by Nancy and the group in this workshop.

We also received a very useful presentation from Susan Hallam, a marketing specialist, on Web marketing for rural arts organisations. Susan discussed web marketing for rural arts organisations www.shcl.co.uk and gave tips for simple changes to our websites, including improving our Title Tags, getting high quality links, and making it easy for visitors to our websites to engage with us. She very kindly made some resources available for the website.

Web Marketing for rural arts

To complement Nancy's keynote talk, we heard from three regional artists about the challenges they face working in rural areas, but also the reasons why they continue to live there and how it impacts on their practice. We heard from Jo Fairfax , sculptor and NESTA fellow, www.jofairfax.co.uk, Debbie Hedderwick, dance, and River Wolton, Derbyshire Poet Laureate, http://derbyshirepoetlaureate.blogspot.com.

Lastly, one of our workshops spent time thinking about and trying to tackle some of what they felt were burning issues for them. To read some more about the Burning Issues workshop and the suggestions they made to deal with their immediate problem, you can download here.
