MLA tool for schools and local government advice for museums
MLA Database of Schools Participation workshops
MLA has recently developed a web based tool to assist museums in planning their work with schools. MLA East Midlands is running five identical one-day sessions to explain the situation and provide every attendee with a password which will enable them and their organisation to:
- record and analyse schools’ use of their services
- profile the schools that use and don’t use their services
- create reports based on school visitor figures, e.g. % of primary visits etc
The dates and venues of the events are as follows:
- 3 July – University of Leicester (booking deadline Friday 27 June)
- 8 July – University of Northampton (booking deadline Tuesday 1 July)
- 3 September – Derby Central Library (booking deadline Wednesday 27 August)
- 10 September – University of Lincoln (booking deadline Wednesday 3 September)
- 24 September – Nottingham Central Library (booking deadline Wednesday 17 September)

Support for local government improvement of museums, libraries and archives
A range of advice to support local government's improvement drive has been published by MLA Council at www.mla.gov.uk/policy/improvement offering guidance on performance management; delivering outcomes for communities through Local Area Agreements (LAAs); identifying improvement priorities, and signposts to more support.
In addition, MLA Council is providing support equivalent to £185, 000 over the next three years to support local areas that have chosen indicators which relate to public libraries and museums (indicators 9 and 10) in their top 35 LAA priorities.
