The Festival this year

Established in 2000 by a dozen regional touring theatre companies, the Pride of Place Rural Touring Theatre Festival this has become a firm favourite on the festival calendar, heading up the rural arts debate and presenting some tremendous theatre.

This is a fantastic opportunity to see the work of fourteen national and international theatre companies working specifically in rural communities. Shows for family, adult and young peoples audiences. Shows that range from the traditional to the experimental, musical to physical theatre, new work to classic stories.

On Thursday evening there will be a procession through Alnwick with the town crier, traditional music, bans and a hog roast in the market square. On Saturday the market will have a Northumbrian theme as befits Pride of Place, with street entertainment. Late night there will be a chance to take part in a ceilidh, comedy impro and dance to the music of the Baghdaddies.

In addition, there will be the opportunity to hear a series of ‘Cultural Provocations’ from a wide range of nationally celebrated speakers airing their views on art, theatre and the world - this will culminate in an Open Space style conference on Sunday morning, examining the place of theatre/art in rural communities, where everyone can express their views.

If debate isn’t your thing, there will also be a series of workshops for performers and designers and opportunity to discuss how you can get involved in bringing theatre into your community.Tickets are exceptional value for money particularly if you book to see three or more shows or better still buy a Festival Pass and take part in all the events.

Alnwick was recently voted Best Place to live by County Life so why not come and see for yourself? Soak up the atmosphere in the market square, make use of Alnwick’s many cafes and dining places, visit the exhibitions and explore the beautiful surrounding countryside, taking time to buy local produce truly celebrating Pride of Place.
