Introduction to evidence
21 February and 5 March, 10.00 - 16.30, Derby, £100 delivered by Jen Beaumont and Andy Botterill (ONS Regional Statisticians).
This is a 1 day course with 2 workshops. These workshops will include:
- Introduction to evidence: what it is and why use it
- Finding data: an overview of key web-based sources
- The best sources for different purposes
- Sources of help and advice
This session will be hands on with internet access for participants to allow them to explore relevant online data sources.
The workshop is aimed at those who are new to sourcing and using evidence. Those need to access data to inform planning and monitoring but are unsure where to go or which sources of information are best.
Understanding Data
24 April, Leicester, 10.00 - 16.30, £100 delivered by Jen Beaumont and Andy Botterill (ONS Regional Statisticians).
This workshop will include:
- Understanding quantitative data
- Reading graphs and tables
- Using basic statistics to interpret and analyse data
- Using data to answer research questions
- Sources of help and advice.
The workshop would be useful for those who want to feel more confident in reading and interpreting quantitative data but have little or no experience in this area.
Monitoring and Evaluating your Project
22 May, Nottingham, £100, 10.00 - 16.30
The workshop will include:
- Understanding monitoring and evaluation and why it is important
- Drawing up a monitoring and evaluation framework for a project
- Understanding and setting outputs, outcomes and targets
- Selecting appropriate indicators
- Implementing the framework
- Methods for collecting evidence
The workshop would be useful for those who need to design and implement a monitoring and evaluation framework for their project or organisation and need to find out about good practice and methods.
Commissioning Research
2 April Nottingham and 19 June Derby, 10.00 - 16.30, £100
This session will include:
- How to design an effective research project
- Deciding if a research commission is really necessary
- Preparing a research brief and invitation to tender
- Procurement and selection
- Managing research projects to ensure quality results
- Research contract management
This workshop would be useful for people needing to commission research to inform policy and decision making who want to learn about good practice in this area.
Maximising the impact of your research
10 July, Nottingham, 10.00 - 16.30, £100
This session will include:
- How to ensure the right people support your research from the outset
- Disseminating findings to different audiences
- Presenting report and data effectively
- Turning your findings into recommendations for action
- Using your research and evidence to influence strategy and policy
- Managing responses to your research
