EMARAN Autumn Conference
East Midlands Arts in Rural Areas Network
East Midlands Arts in Rural Areas Network invites you to its autumn conference MARKET TOWNS AND CULTURAL CURRENCY
Town Hall, Newark, Nottinghamshire NG24 1DU
Weds 7 November 2007, 9.30am – 4.30pm
EMARAN’s second regional conference looks at the impact that exciting, ambitious arts projects can have on market towns, as well as in rural areas in general. It will showcase models of good practice and provide a forum to discuss the past, present and future challenges involved.
It will also present the findings of recent key research, useful for all those working in rural regeneration and arts in rural areas. And, in keeping with EMARAN’s short but distinctive tradition, there will be a long lunch break to give everyone attending the chance to tour this lovely town on market day, and to network with one another. There will be lots of time for Q&A sessions, forums and discussions, and the day concludes with a chance for those attending to share news of their recent work.
Presentations will cover a range of artforms including film, music, multi-arts, literature, music and outdoor spectaculars, from Newark, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire. The research presentation focuses on Newark’s EMDA-funded work exploring the economic impact of festivals and events in market towns.
This second conference is aimed primarily at organisations involved in rural regeneration, and at those funding, initiating or managing arts projects, whether small or large, in rural areas. However, we hope that artists and creative industries will also find plenty to interest them during the day in terms of professional development and raising awareness of the broader context for arts in rural areas.
The first EMARAN conference attracted over 70 people, who gave very positive feedback on the day. We hope this day will be even more enjoyable, and look forward to welcoming you.
