BAFA Conference coming to East Midlands

British Arts Festivals Association (BAFA) brings its annual international conference to beautiful Buxton in the Peak District this October. If you would like to get further information about what is currently happening in the world of arts festivals, then this is an event not to be missed.

The conference takes place 11 – 13 October with numerous inspiring keynote speeches from leading figures in the industry.

Thursday evening (11th ) will comprise of social networking events, followed by a ‘Looking Out’ theme on Friday (12th ) focusing on UK festivals and European opportunities, including cultural planning, working with local authorities, planning for the 2012 Olympics, European funding, bringing over international artists and the European Festivals Research Project.

Saturday’s focus will be on ‘Looking In’ with presentations from major UK festivals, and sessions such as ‘How Green is Your Festival’, ‘Doing it all – the art of running a small festival’ and ‘Making partnerships outside the arts’.

There will be over 100 festival organisers, including a number of East Midlands based arts festivals, taking part in the conference and various local authority representatives.

Delegate rates start from just £75, and discounts may be available to East Midlands based organisations.

Edinburgh Festival Director to Speak at BAFA Conference

We are delighted that Jonathan Mills, the new Director of the Edinburgh International Festival, will be giving a keynote address to the BAFA conference. Jonathan's first Edinburgh Festval took place this summer and he will be coming to Buxton to talk about his international experience as a festival director and hopefully some insights into his first year in Edinburgh.
