Culture and Rural Development in the East Midlands

About this website

This site is a new service maintained by Culture East Midlands. Culture East Midlands was established by Government in 1999, as one of eight Regional Cultural Consortia. Funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), our role is to promote the value and importance of culture in the region. We do this by bringing together the organisations which have a role in the region's cultural life. With these partners, we raise the profile and value of culture in the East Midlands. Read on for information on the people involved in building and maintaining the website or click the link below for more information on Culture East Midlands' consortium partners.

Who we are

Rebecca Lee

She is a freelance arts worker, musician and practitioner with a background in innovative music performance and delivery; producing site-specific work in rural venues and working with Creative Partnerships in Nottingham. Dave Everitt

Dave Everitt

Dave is a fine artist who works with technology, currently undertaking career development under an Arts Council England award.

He enjoyed experimenting with innovative human-computer interaction at the Creativity and Cognition Research Studios (formerly at Loughborough University), and is finding a new home at DeMontfort's IOCT.

Under his partnership Eco Consulting, he managed the project planning, material gathering and construction of this website, and testing with a knowledgeable group of disabled users.

Apart from a passion for art-technology, his interests are: emerging technology, and has been involved in arts and disability (as webmaster for Disability Arts Online), web access and standards, information design and architecture, and programming culture. He can write (and teaches) (X)HTML and CSS standing on his head. He also writes songs and sings.

François Matarasso

François Matarasso

Since late 2005 François has worked part-time on a Culture East Midlands/EMDA programme, which aims to strengthen the place of culture in rural development. This website is one part of that initiative, and he has led on developing the content with Dave and Katie.

François is a writer, researcher and consultant with many years' experience in community-based arts activity. He specialises in practice-led research, especially on the impact of culture. He has worked with community arts projects in countries as different as Colombia, Japan and Macedonia and believes that outstanding work can be created anywhere.

He also works for other clients and, in the time that's left, he is Chair of Arts Council East Midlands. Some of his publications are available on his homepage.
