The result
The success of Centre Screen is evident because:
- An average of 66 people now attend each screening (compared to a National Cinema Average of 29 people per show at mainstream city centre cinemas)
- The scheme has provided access to cinema for those who otherwise may not have such opportunities to due to barriers of distance, transport and accessibility (75% of surveyed Centre Screen audience members do not regularly attend any other form of cinema exhibition)
- Increased social and cultural opportunities have been created within isolated communities (99% of audience members travelled less than 5 miles to Centre Screen events)
- The viability of village halls and other rural and community venues has been enhanced.
"We might not have surround sound or digital technology but the ambience here will be great. We organised a pre-show glass of wine when we put on Chicago. It's a great chance for everyone to get together."
